The Bighorn Lodge Kitchen
Once again the only real difference in our operations now is that we do not cook any meals but allow all guests to use our commercial kitchen. For non-group stays you can count on us to have breakfast foods available for you to prepare on your own each morning. The kitchen is stocked to the hilt with every utensil you would ever need for cooking and serving food for large groups. Basics such as spices, flour, sugar, etc. are provided. So be sure to bring with you the grocery items you need for your meals, and if you miss something there are two small grocery stores in our area. Larger grocery stores are one hour away in Sandpoint, Idaho or Libby, Montana. For those who may want to dine out there are several local restaurants nearby.
As you can see from the above pictures we have a very well stocked kitchen. There are:
- Conventional gas oven
- Convection gas oven
- Six Eye gas burners
- Large gas Griddle
- Gas Grill
- Three refrigerators
- Top Loading Freezer
- Hobart Sanitizer
- Ice Machine
- Blender, mixer, crock pots, toaster, micro-wave, coffee pot.
- Large pantry
Our guests really seem excited when they see the kitchen and enjoy cooking together.
Area Restaurants: There are several nice "Montana style" restaurants in the local area within 15 minutes of the Lodge that offer great food at reasonable prices. Also the nearby Big Sky Pantry has wonderful sandwiches and pizzas which may be brought back to the lodge or use their picnic tables in good weather.
The resort town of Sandpoint, Idaho is one hour’s drive from the lodge. Here you have a larger selection but a longer drive. This may sit well with the gals because Sandpoint is a small but very unique resort town with lots of interesting shops. Also, skiing in the winter may take you to Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort almost directly above Sandpoint.
In the nearby town of Hope, Idaho, there are a few local restaurants. One in particular, is the Floating Restaurant, which is exactly what its name implies and offers delicious food in a comfortable setting. While "floating" on Lake Pend Oreille, you can dine while relaxing outdoors, taking in a beautiful sunset over the mountains naturally in the Spring and Summer months!
